Multiple Trivia

 Oldest Twins
The Phipps twins, Eli and John were born in 1803. Eli died first in 1911 aged 108

Oldest Female Twins
Kin Narita and Gin Kanie (born August 1, 1892), whose names mean Gold and Silver, were the oldest authenticated female twins. Kin died of heart failure on January 23, 2000, at the age of 107. The twins' lives spanned three centuries and they witnessed the Japanese eras of Meiji, Taisho, Showa, and Heisei. Although Gin died of a heart attack on January 23, 2000, they are still household names in Japan and in the past appeared regularly on TV and commercials. Both enjoyed good health although Kin was briefly hospitalized in 1999 due to a stomach ulcer. Kin gave birth to 11 children and had as many grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Gin has five children, four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren

Most Twins At The Same School
At the Louis Marshall School in Brooklyn, New York, USA, there were 29 sets of twins for the 1999-2000 school year. It was teacher Myron Cohen who first realized there were an extraordinary number of twins at the school, including a pair of twin teachers. He said: "We had 13 sets and the number has just grown over the years. When it first came out the pupils were really excited. It made them feel special to have camera crews visit and be on TV."

Largest Gathering Of Twins
"We beat the last record set in the United States by a thousand pairs," the Taipei city mayor told the huge crowd of twins. "If, in the future, some other country breaks our record, let's have another gathering to break theirs!"

The Taipei gathering of 3,961 pairs of twins was held to encourage a spirit of regeneration and brotherly togetherness following the devastating earthquake on the island two months earlier. The gathering would have smashed the old Ohio - held record by an even more impressive margin had it not been for poor weather conditions on the day.

Oldest Living Conjoined Female Twins
Masha and Dasha Krivoshlyapova, born in the USSR on January 3, 1950, are a rare form of conjoined twins with two heads, four arms, and two legs. When they were born, doctors told their mother her babies had died of pneumonia. They were then used as medical guinea pigs. After spending 40 years in Soviet institutions for the disabled, the twins won their battle for better living conditions, and, in 1989, they were permitted to move into a modern spacious home with their own shower and double bed. At the same time, a British surgeon offered to separate them, but they turned him down.

Lightest Triplets
Together weighing 1,879 g (66.28 oz), the Vincent triplets, namely Joel Kent, Ariel Ann, and Bethel Joy, became the lightest born triplets when they were born by cesarean section at Chicago Osteopathic Hospital, Illinois, USA, on January 22, 1990.

Oldest Triplets
The longest-living triplets recorded were Faith, Hope, and Charity Cardwell, who were born on May 18, 1899, at Elm Mott, Texas, USA. Faith died first on October 2, 1994, aged 95 years 137 days.

Oldest Quadruplets
The Ottman quadruplets, of Munich, Germany, named Adolf, Anne-Marie, Emma, and Elisabeth, were born on May 5, 1912. All four lived to at least the age of 79 - Adolf was the first to die, on March 17, 1992, aged 79 years and 316 days.

Most Surviving Children From A Single Birth
A set of septuplets - four boys and three girls - were born to Bobbie McCaughey on November 19, 1997, at the University Hospital, Iowa, USA. Conceived by in vitro fertilization, the babies were delivered after 31 weeks by caesarean in the space of 16 minutes. Named Kenneth, Nathaniel, Brandon, Joel, Kelsey, Natalie and Alexis, they weighed between 1,048 g and 1,474.3 g (2 lb 5 oz and 3 lb 4 oz).

Another set of surviving septuplets were born eight weeks premature on 14 January 1998 to 40-year-old Hasna Mohammed Humair (Saudi Arabia). The four boys and three girls, the smallest of which weighed just under 907 g (2 lb), were born at the Abha Obstetric Hospital, Aseer. Already a mother of six, the unplanned pregnancy was the result of a fertility drug prescribed to regulate her menstrual cycle.

- Maddalena Granata, born 1839 in Italy gave birth to 15 sets of triplets
